Mandatory Coaches/Volunteer Background Check

SEFSA requires that every person who intends to work directly with our players complete a background check PRIOR to league practices or games.  All coaches, assistant coaches, team managers, and book keepers must submit a background check.  A good "rule of thumb" is if you plan on being in the dugout with the team, we need a background check.

USA National Softball has changed its protocol to ensure the protection and safety of our youth.  Background checks are now completed and paid for on-line through a provider sanctioned by USA Softball.  The cost is $10 per back ground check - SEFSA does not cover this charge.

All SEFSA coaches are encouraged to complete the ACE certification but coaches 10U through the Women's division are highly encouraged to complete the on-line ACE training.  The cost is $25 for "first time users" and $20 for all others.  The ACE certification includes a background check.   ACE certification has a  "Safe Sport" component that you have to complete so please allow a few hours to complete this training.  SEFSA does not cover the cost of the ACE certification.

Please use the link below to set up your USA account which will allow you to complete your ACE certification and/or complete the mandatory background check.  Have your credit/debit handy as you will need to pay online to complete the process.  After you have completed the ACE certification or background check, you must print off the receipt/confirmation page and bring it to the coaches meeting in April or email it to  You will not be allowed to have  contact with your team/players until this documentation is received.

Team Classification Rules

Please review the SEFSA "Team Classification Rules" to learn how to accurately classifying  your team as A, B, or Rec division. It is important that each coach register his/her team in the most appropriate division so players can get the best experience possible. This will help make our teams and league stronger if everyone has a positive and fun season. Please review the SEFSA "Team Classification Rules" to learn how to accurately classifying  your team as A, B, or Recreation division. Weather Policy

  • Each night that games are scheduled to be played, the SEFSA Executive board member(s) will check the weather forecast for impending weather conditions that could affect games being played that evening. When possible, SEFSA will cancel games by 4pm.  Please keep in mind that weather is unpredictable and that we will do our best to make decisions in a timely manner to keep all our members safe.  SEFSA would like to remind all parents/guardians that they can exercise discretion to determine if the weather is unsafe for their child to play.
  • Games may be cancelled by field/ location.  There are situations where it may not be     raining at Dunham Park (westside) but down pouring at Frank Olson Park (eastside).
  • SEFSA will post the status of league games on our website, Twitter (@1SEFSA), and Facebook. Please follow/friend us!
  • If your coach uses the Sports Engine team page to communicate, he/she can send an email and a text message to team members regarding the status of games in the event of inclement weather.  You must have "enabled text messaging" in your Sports Engine account profile for your child/family to receive this type of communication.
  • In case of inclement weather during warm-ups or during the games, a horn blast means that play is temporarily halted. If the games are halted due to lightening, there will be a mandatory 30-minute game delay. All players and fans should take cover in their vehicles until weather permits restarting the games or until the games are cancelled. Games will re-start exactly where they left off. If there is a delay beyond the first 30 minutes of play, all of the games will be cancelled.
  • If the first game is delayed due to weather, the second game that night is automatically cancelled.  The reason for the cancellation of the second games, is due to the safety issue posed because there are not lights at the fields to extend play that late in the evening.

* Please refer to SEFSA’s game reschedule policy as it is the  head coaches’ responsibility to reschedule cancelled games.
